Newton Flight Academy is an immersive new experience at Glasgow Science Centre!

It is the UK’s first Newton Flight Academy and home to Scotland’s only full-motion flight simulators. In fact, there are 3 of them in this state-of-the-art facility!

Newton Flight Academy at Glasgow Science Centre is most suitable for ages 12+ and not suitable for anyone aged 8 and under.

Keen young flyers aged between 9 and 11 must share their flying experience with an accompanying adult.

Who is Newton Flight Academy suitable for?

Newton Flight Academy at Glasgow Science Centre is most suitable for ages 12+ and not suitable for anyone aged 8 and under.
Keen young flyers aged between 9 and 11 must share their flying experience with an accompanying adult. If you are visiting with two children aged between 9 and 11 you will need to book two simulator experiences and they will need to attend with 2 adults.

When is Newton Flight Academy available to book?

Newton Flight Academy at Glasgow Science Centre is available to book for sessions at weekends and local school holidays.

What plane will I fly?

There are two different light aircraft available in the simulator to fly: The Beechcraft 58 Baron (B58) and the Cessna 172 Skyhawk (C172).

The B58 has twin IO-550 300 HP engines.

The C172 in the simulator is the 180 HP 172 SP variant.

Where will I fly to?

In your 30-minute flight simulator experience, your flight will take off and land at Glasgow Airport giving you the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the controls while flying over the city. Then you will have the opportunity to fly a short sightseeing flight around a city of your choice.

How easy is it to fly?

You will be fully supported by our flight instructors throughout your experience to ensure a successful take-off and landing.

How accessible is Newton Flight Academy?

We have endeavoured to make Newton Flight Academy at Glasgow Science Centre as accessible as possible. The simulators have a set of three steps with handrail to reach the seats in the cockpit. To discuss any particular accessibility needs, please email us before booking.

Can other members of my party observe?

A maximum of two non-flying members of the visiting party are welcome to attend Newton Flight Academy and observe the simulation experience. Space around the simulators is limited and observers will be required to stand during the experience.

Over the course of the workshop, they’ll work together and apply their skills and knowledge to chart a flight path, learn about flight and working together in a team to solve real-world scenarios, and experience the thrill of putting the planning into action by taking the controls of a full-motion flight simulator!
