OPITO

In 2022, Glasgow Science Centre received funding from long-term partner OPITO to develop and deliver a new energy-themed learning programme. Staff from Glasgow Science Centre designed an innovative Learning Lab programme to support learners in P5-7 and S1-2 to understand the transition to renewable energy and the careers available to them in the energy sector.

Together with our regional delivery partners at Aberdeen Science Centre, Dundee Science Centre, Science Skills Academy, and most recently Life Science Centre in Newcastle, this programme has engaged 36k pupils in over 700k hours of learning.

Glasgow Science Centre’s mobile exhibition, Powering the Future (also supported by OPITO) enabled access to an amazing hands-on science experience for schools in remote areas across Scotland. Powering the Future has improved pupil and teacher awareness of the energy sector including the science and technology behind the energy transition.

Collaborating with the science centres allows organisations like OPITO to have broader outreach and engagement with the community and schools. This allows us to support a diverse and inclusive workforce for the future.
