ICLEI

In 2024, Glasgow Science Centre and Strathclyde University’s research group, Glasgow Environmental Monitoring of Indoor and Outdoor Air (GEMINOA) partnered to develop and deliver an array of public engagement outputs as part of a joint funding project from ICLEI (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives).

Strathclyde University researchers received public engagement training from Glasgow Science Centre experts as well as ongoing consultation and guidance to participate in several public engagement outputs.

These included developing and delivering hands-on activities at two in-person events at the Science Centre, a family Spark magazine edition dedicated to air quality, two radio Spark episodes and an online meet the expert session.

The total reach of all face-to-face, digital and print activity was in excess of 8,500 people across 630 hours of engagement, helping to improve community understanding of air quality monitoring research and its importance to Glasgow.

It’s a really exciting place to be, bringing your work into that environment and having the assistance of the Science Centre to get your message across.
