Meet Me in Govan
For our most recent codesign project, the Community Learning and Development team had the pleasure of working with one of our lovely partner groups, Meet Me in Govan, a local walking group.
The creative project, funded by Farrans Construction, the Civil Engineering Contractors behind the Govan-Partick bridge, gave the group the opportunity to create a map of their beloved route that features their own drawings of all their favourite landmarks.
The walking group, supported by Invisible Cities, an organisation that trains people who have experienced homelessness to become walking tour guides, invites residents, newcomers, and anyone curious to discover the area to join them on a weekly Thursday morning walk around Govan.
Since launching in the summer of 2022, the group has brought together individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences to explore the rich history, culture, and landmarks of Govan during one of their weekly walks.
This has been a long dream for Meet Me in Govan, and thanks to this project, it has finally become a reality. It would not have been possible without the generous support of Farrans, whose funding brought this idea to life. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Glasgow Science Centre, particularly Sheena, for her dedication and creativity in guiding the workshops. Finally, a huge thank you to the walkers of Meet Me in Govan, whose ideas, enthusiasm, and teamwork made this map truly one-of-a-kind. We are excited to see this project inspire even more people to explore and connect with the heart of Govan.

This project gave the community team the opportunity to facilitate sessions that have codesign at its very heart. 'Meet Me in Govan' is a small group which ensured everyone taking part had their voices heard throughout the development stages. It was clear they were all so passionate about their walking route around Govan, as a very creative group it didn’t take long before their wonderful drawings were turning into a map they proudly wanted to share. We approached the artist Barry Jenkins, who has developed many community artworks for us, and he transformed the beautiful artwork into the final digital version.
