BodyWorks On Tour - Glasgow Science Centre

BodyWorks on Tour is a new outreach programme about our amazing bodies.  These engaging science shows, interactive workshops and amazing exhibits are the perfect complement to the Curriculum for Excellence Science and Health & Wellbeing outcomes. 

 

There is an experience for all ages: 


Nursery Activities

Special themed hands on workshops for 3-5 year olds.  Suitable for 20 children per session - 3 sessions per day.


Sniff, Look and Listen   (N1-N2)
Make sense of your senses through a range of exciting investigative activities including sensational smells and a touchy feely task!
CfE – Body Systems and Cells / Properties and Uses of Substances
Available in November, March, April and June.


Primary Activities

Develop successful learners through first hand observation of scientific ideas in our engaging science shows. Expert presenters will amaze you with spectacular demonstrations. Capacity 120 per show - 1 show per day.

Journey through My Body (P1-P3) NEW
Take a journey through the amzing body. Find out how food travels through the body, the importance of diet and making healthy choices.

Available all year.

Blood, Bile and Body Bits (P4 – S2)
The human body is an amazing machine. Come along to find out about how diet and exercise can make a difference to your body’s function and over all well-being.

Game On – The Science of Sport (P4-S2)
Find out about the effects of sports, exercise and diet on the body; investigate different types of fitness; and what it takes to be a top athlete.  Volunteer to take part in our Science of Sport competition to see how you compare against your classmates.

How high can I jump? How much water is in my body? How flexible am I? What will I look like if I smoke? Our exciting BodyWorks exhibition is a fully hands-on, active learning experience. The exhibits encourage investigation into our amazing bodies and what they can do.

SportStation Session (P6-S6) NEW
Take part in an interactive health and fitness trail. Pupils complete their own SportStation Passport on the day and enter their data onto our online SportStation analyser following the session.

Experience our interactive show featuring spectacular demonstrations to engage, inform and enthuse. We will highlight the importance of science and how biology, chemistry and physics link into careers.

Meet the Gene Machine (S3-S6)
Would you like to know what your genes say about you?  Meet the Gene Machine is a lively discussion event designed to stimulate debate about the ethical implications of recent advances in medical genetics.
CfE:  Topical Science / Standard Grade – Inheritance. Int 2/Higher – Genetics. Biological Systems/inheritance/ Science: Technologies
60 pupils per session - up to 3 sessions per day
Available in November, February and April

Explore and investigate how your body works using our highly engaging and interactive exhibits. Capacity 1 class per session - up to 4 sessions per day.
